Jerri has always been guided by two passions – helping people through nursing, and loving animals from dogs to cats to horses. Dog ownership for her, however, has not always been easy. Jerri was bitten by one of her family’s dogs at a young age. She never gave up on the companionship that dogs provide, but her love was put to the test when she and Mike took home an energetic eight week old English Bulldog she named Diggs. Before her eyes, Diggs went from playful puppy to willful and disobedient dog. Diggs would destroy furniture, wage war with the vacuum cleaner, and act aggressively towards other animals. “Purely Positive” trainers were unable to correct her behavior.
Searching for a better way to control Diggs’ behavior, Jerri discovered Canine Dimensions and its dog training philosophy, and was amazed at the results. She decided to leave her nursing career to make helping people and their canine companions her life’s mission as a Canine Dimensions franchise owner.
“Provide your dog with positive, strong leadership and you will be amazed at what the two of you can achieve,” says Mike, whose experience with unruly dogs began when he was growing up with his Bloodhound, Ralph. “I remember Ralph following his nose and pulling me through the woods. Like many families, we put up his nuisance barking, jumping and pulling because we didn’t have the right knowledge or techniques.”
Mike chose to leave his career leading high-visibility projects in Washington D.C. to become a professional dog trainer and help people build a stronger bond with their dogs. Drawing from his experience leading Marines and working with difficult horses, Mike began his career as a dog trainer by interning in one of the busiest animal shelters in the Northeast, and was later trained by nationally known dog behavior expert and Canine Dimensions founder, Phil Guida.
Jerri and Mike are Certified Dog Behavior Advisors, professional members of the International Association of Canine Professionals (IACP), and CGC evaluators for the American Kennel Club.
